Maidstone Day Centre, part of the Homeless Care charity, will receive a weekly supply of food from Kent construction company Chartway Group as part of the company’s ongoing support of the charity.
The charity will receive a weekly supply from Chartway Group at its Maidstone Day Centre, including bacon, sausages, milk and cheese, with enough food for the week to feed the 30 people using the facility on a daily basis. The food drop means that the Day Centre can continue to provide food to those who need it most.
Established over 30 years ago, The Homeless Care charity provides high-quality day centre support services to the homeless and vulnerable at its Maidstone Day Centre, open six days a week, and runs a small residential property and offers a substantial food bank for those in need in the area.
Maidstone Day Centre is one of two charities selected earlier this year by Chartway Group to receive support from its fund-raising activities. Coxheath based Chartway Group, which currently employs some 200 people, also offers its staff the opportunity to take a day’s paid leave per year for voluntary work. A team of Chartway workers will be helping out at the Maidstone Day Centre as part of their voluntary contribution and organising a collection of men’s clothing to be donated to users of the Day Centre, which currently has a shortfall of men’s items.
Ian Savage, CEO of Chartway Group, said: “As we build new homes in Maidstone and across Kent, Maidstone Day Centre is a charity close to our hearts, looking after people who are not fortunate enough to have a roof over their heads. Like all good builders, we know the value of a good breakfast to start the day and the service the day centre provides is vital in getting people through tough times. Being hungry is no basis from which to start the work of rebuilding lives. We hope that with a bit of help from Chartway Group, Maidstone Day Centre can keep on doing their sterling work for local homeless people.”
Zofia Grzymala, Manager of Maidstone Day Centre, commented: “We are very grateful to Chartway Group for their support. Regular, fresh produce donations will help us provide more hot, nutritious meals for the homeless people in our community.”
