Families from the Conningbrook Lakes development in Ashford enjoyed a workshop led by local artist Andy Evans earlier this month (Saturday 6 August 2022).
Five families attended the Family Art Safari round Conningbrook Lakes Country Park, to explore the nature trails around the lakes and participate in fun, nature-themed art and craft activities, some using items foraged from the area.
The event was the latest in a series of free workshops for local people and groups that are being delivered as part of a programme of public art at Conningbrook Lakes by Chartway Group, Latimer Developments and Ashford Borough Council, who commissioned public art consultancy FrancisKnight and Outdoor Studios to deliver the project. This has included the installation earlier this year of a new lakeside artwork ‘The Loop’, artist-led workshops and further artworks are in the pipeline.
Andy Evans commented, “We took a walk around the lakes with some local families, trying out different types of art activities and recording a story about our route and discoveries that they could take home at the end of the day.”
Resident Stephanie Sainsbury said, “It’s nice to see the kids interacting with the wildlife and people have been walking around and seeing what we’ve got here at Conningbrook Lakes Country Park. It’s been a nice day out.”
